Should abortions be legal? This question has been around for what seems like forever and will always remain a hot topic among the general public and politicians. Personally, I think that abortions are a personal decision and that no one has a right to tell anyone else what to do when it comes to this matter.
I do not think that this should be used as a form of birth control because that is simply cruel and irresponsible, but I think that most of us can agree that expected and unexpected pregnancies can be a stressful time in ones life for all who are involved. There are numerous reasons as to how someone might become pregnant, it can be consensual or it could have been forced upon them, for example, rape.
The option of abortion should always remain open. Aside from not simply wanting the baby there may be medical reasons that require the fetus to be aborted, for instance, developmental problems. Raising a child who typical can be a daunting task for anyone, having to raise a child with disability can even more of a challenge physically, emotionally, and financially. “The out-of-pocket expenses families use to care for their children with disabilities are significant. Newachek and McManus (1988) found the out-of-pocket expenses of parenting children with disabilities were two to three times higher than the expenses associated with parenting children without disabilities” (goliath.ecnext.com).
I do happen to know a person or two that have exercised their right to have an abortion. None of them where excited about it or made the decision very lightly. Most of them chose to do so because they were to young and knew that they could not do what needed to be done to provide for the child. Every single one of these individuals took this life changing experience and learned from it. They did not go out and continue to have unprotected sex and get pregnant again. They did what they knew they had to do and lived their life more responsibly, never...
