The basis of Morality and Christian Law
Many of us believe our tradition and religion are directly linked to our morality and how we as
human beings classify what is wrong and what is right. Christianity and morality have always been seen
to be a direct correlation of one another. According to Christian law, we are a direct image of what God

“The natural moral law, is given, on creation to every human being, i.e. to those bodily human beings
who have been made in the ‘image and likeness of God’”.
John Paul II, argued ‘the moral law [the natural law] has it’s origin in God and always finds it’s
source in him. With that being said, I propose the argument on why we are condoned or expected to
follow his law, and the guides it gives us on proper truths to make morally and ethically right decisions.
However, many point out that one does not have to be religious to be moral, and that morality comes
from human nature and not only religion. Morality in a personal opinion, is the way you decide to live
your life. Although there are as many moralities as there are cultures and leaders in the world, the
reality that tradition has in ones upbringing exists, such as a teenager smoking because her parents
smoke. Being very difficult to explain, the point trying to be made is that outside influences affect
our personal moralities. Although that doesn’t debunk the notion that we make our own moralities,
it explains that tradition whether good or bad impacts some decisions or beliefs we may have.
So what makes something right, right and what makes something wrong, wrong? Who are we to
answer that? The answer is, it can’t be answered because there is no right or wrong answer. Religion
does not serve as a basis of morality, but rather the other way around, because we do not act simply
because a religious being told us...
