my name is Cedric Jerod Ray. I am 28 years of age and newly unemployed. Years ago, after graduating from James Bowie H. S in 2001 I was asked what school I would attend. I remember vividly thinking to myself how fun and exciting my college experience would be. I had no trouble completing high school, taking most AP classes throughout my then short academic career. It seemed to me that I would simply coast through college as though it were nothing more that an extension of high school. I was sorely mistaken on that front, but what I was absolutely right about was how fun my new experience in college would be. I ended up attending Prairie View A&M University as a freshman in the fall of 2001. It didn't take long to notice that the freedom college offered and lack of the structure I had come to depend on in high school, made it easy for what has become my most major short coming to make itself known.

As a young child I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D) and prescribed medication that at that time (early 90's) had not been modified to suit children. As a direct result of taking the medication prescribed, I immediately loss all appetite, had uncontrollable mood swings and often could be found alone in my room crying from confusion. I can only imagine the horror my parents felt to see their 9 or 10 year old son shedding weight and act like a "zombie", as my father recalled it. The diagnosis and treatment were both at that point rejected and instead the notion that I was just being a disorganized young boy was adopted. Throughout grade school my A.D.D didn't cause much disturbance. Sure, there were plenty of instances were assignment would end up turned in late or not at all but I was sure in my young mind that these things would and didn't matter as long as I could prove comprehension through tests and assessments. Though my GPA in high school may have suffered slightly the impact was minimum to my over all goal which was of course to complete...
