Globalization and the use of the internet have made working and sharing of information internationally easier and faster. While this has been welcome, it presents with it a lot of risks that networks, individuals, organizations and governments linked in the World Wide Web are susceptible to. This vulnerability is made even worse in case of unsecure connections and when one is the target of the attack. These attacks launched from one computer to another with the aim of undermining integrity, confidentiality and making unavailable a computer or information within the computer is what is referred to a cyber attack. The attacks are usually premeditated, and use dangerous codes to modify computer systems, data or logic, thereby causing disorderliness within the system that compromises data, leading to identity and information theft, and other forms of cybercrime.
Cyber attacks for system may originate from within the nation or a company. These attacks target the system, feeding into it worms, Trojans or malware that are use to steal information, cause system malfunctioning or used as the launching pad to attack other computers within and without the network. The attacks present a lot of consequences from loss of confidentiality and theft of data, system breakdown or system denial of services.
