I think that it is fair to say that humans are social creatures. We thrive off of interactions with others. I also think our lives change every day as well as the people in it. We often are unsure of where we stand with these new people that we meet. So I believe that if one wants to know where they stand with someone else, I encourage you to fart… and see if he comes back after the stench leaves.
For example, my mom knows that I am a sucker for fried chicken, mac and cheese, and football. She got me with all three this weekend. I sat beside her on the couch and decided to play a trick. Next thing I know. UGA is scoring, my step dad is cheering, I’m smiling, and my mom is cussing at me. I guess it wasn’t a good idea to force an asthmatic to hold her nose. However, even through the smell of my fart, my mother did not abandon me. Not because she was forced to. She stayed because she accepted me for who I am.
The only problem is that I farted in an environment that I am already comfortable with. I get shy and don’t fart much in front of new people because I am afraid that they might reject me instead of accepting me for who I am.
It is not about the literal fart, but it is about stepping out of my comfort zone to express who I am. Sometimes I get afraid to take that first step in showing my true colors, but what if I don’t fart? What if the other person doesn’t fart? No one will know what could have been. A new friendship, a new relationship, or even an entire movement. No will know.
So I encourage you to fart the best you can. It might push someone away to the point where they will reject you forever and possibly not return even after the stench is gone. But then again, maybe they will.
