Abstract
The paper aims to find out what goes into the making of a learning organization. What characteristics does learning organizations possess and are they worth in terms of organizational effectiveness. Strategic alignment with mission, organizational readiness-to-change and attitudes of people are the main criteria for an organization to become a learning organization. However, what is equally important is the balance between the trio. It is further discovered that information-sharing is the most fundamental aspect of learning organizations. This is how knowledge is established within firms which configure value into the organizational structure, culture and system of an organization. Learning system developments also, require leadership to manage changes, formulating objectives into action and develop capabilities for competency.

Introduction
The challenges of globalization and information age have created a dynamic competitive workforce. The diversity of behavior, skills and ethnic approach has ushered in a new business environment that is hi-tech and hi-touch both. In such an environment, it is essential that a firm aligns its business philosophy that unites the management of the people. Such alignment results when a sense of commitment in terms of business direction is set. The business direction or the mission statement of a firm dictates its scope of activities and pursuit. The people of the firm must understand and share similar opinions about their contribution to the fulfillment of organization goals. This approach has wider perspective and flow unidirectional.

The sense of commitment essentially is injected to create a culture of openness, trust and honesty. This facilitates localized decision-making, teamwork and sense of ownership among people.
