Marijuana and its contributions to the United States. Over the years research has found that marijuana save lives, so make it legal. Although marijuana is portrayed as a harmful drug, it also helps certain people with their illnesses and it is also a huge cash crop.  This essay will be discussing the legal use and illegal use of marijuana.  It will also share the short and long effect that marijuana could have on people who use it. This essay will show how marijuana could benefit and/or hurt the U.S. Marijuana is usually seen by the public as a harmful drug that leads people into more hardcore drugs.  Marijuana is supplying jobs not only on the streets but in offices too.  Police officers and DEA (U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency) are trained in a way that they could find marijuana with ease.  After all of the training, if marijuana was legal the DEA would have to be cut in half and people would lose their jobs.  Fortunately, the need for marijuana farms and sellers would increase, and that would make more money after awhile.  According to the DEA, “In 2005, the DEA seized 282,139 kilograms of marijuana.” (“DEA drug seizures”)  The seizing over the years show the ease of purchasing such a drug. Since 1989 the growth of marijuana use and availability has grown uncontrollably. According to the DEA, “Since 1989 to 1991 the availability and the use of marijuana, has doubled in only the grades between 8th and 12th.  In 1993 a poll was taken, 98% of high school students said that it is fairly easy to go a purchase marijuana.” (“DEA population use”)  Medical marijuana is great if it is prescribed by a Doctor if someone has cancer.  According to the American medical association, “Although the extent of the medicinal value of cannabis has been disputed, it does have several well-documented beneficial effects.   Among these effects: the lost feeling of nausea and vomiting, stimulation of hunger in chemotherapy and AIDS...
