Nonetheless, nowadays people focus more on outer beauty than ever due to of the use of plastic surgery in the medical industry. Its increased utility has been paramount in recent years. The economic boom in Asia has elevated the volume of plastic surgery performed, and those countries have become major players in that medical field. Statistically, South Korea takes the prize, having the world‟s highest rate of plastic surgery per capita as its citizens pursue beauty. What about all those sensational statistics and unusual phenomena in South Korea? How has this relatively small country become a Mecca of cosmetic surgery? In 60 short years, South Korea went from being one of the poorest countries in Asia to having the world's 13th largest economy. Korean students have some of the highest test scores in the world, and a higher rate of acceptance into American Ivy League schools than any other foreign country. The teenagers in South Korea are the main consumers of plastic surgery. Their parents encourage them to go under the knife. After their senior year of high school students have a strong belief that good looks will make it easier for them to get a better job and possibly attract a better marriage partner. South Korea is a highly competitive society and its complexity and cultural stereotyping generate crucial criticisms about people‟s looks and educational levels.
