Contract Pharmacal Corporation is a pharmaceutical company that began in 1971 in Danbury, Connecticut (Anastasi, 1998). It “develops, manufactures and packages premium pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter drugs and dietary supplements”. The company hosts over 3,000 different formulas and develops 100 new products on a yearly basis. The variety of products that passes through the labs and warehouses of CPC is expansive. CPC (2010) conveys that their product lines include antioxidants, vitamins, weight loss products, analgesics, anti-emetics as well as many others. CPC proves to be an ideal topic selection because I was under its employment during the summer of 2008. I worked as a laboratory technician and my duties included weight variation, input of data, pill disintegration tests, labeling of drugs, research into RDA of vitamins and distribution of samples to chemists.
CPC began in 1971 when a couple, John and Harriet Wolf, decided that they could efficiently provide to OTC medications and nutritional supplements to many different parts of the world. The company is a midsized pharmaceutical corporation that employees approximately 500 specialists. The company claims to have a high retention rate and it trains its professionals to maintain a high standard in production. It has 3,800 different products, which is distributed to various parts of the world, including London and China. The company’s product lines can be subdivided into two major categories, which are dietary supplements and over-the-counter (O.T.C. drugs). Its dietary supplement product list includes herbs, vitamins, weight loss supplements and antioxidants (Products 2010). It’s over the counter medications include analgesics (pain medication), anti-emetics (motion sickness), anti-tussives (cough medication), and sleep aids.
