Consequences Of War
There are many consequences of war that are terrible to the soldier and those around them. Death, loss of limbs, blindness, and loss of hearing are common consequences of war but I am going to talk about PTSD or Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is a very serious illness. PTSD negatively affects the victim, their family and friends, and their employers. PTSD can be caused by seeing, experiencing, or even hearing about a traumatic event. PTSD symptoms are flashbacks, upsetting dreams about the traumatic event, trying to avoid thinking or talking about the traumatic event, feeling emotionally numb, avoiding activities you once enjoyed, hopelessness about the future, memory problems, Trouble concentrating, difficulty maintaining close relationships, Irritability or anger, overwhelming guilt or shame, self-destructive behavior such as drinking too much, trouble sleeping, being easily startled or frightened, and hearing or seeing things that aren't there.
When PTSD affects the victim it takes a long time to get rid of it if the victim even can. It ruins some of the relationships the victim may have with people. The victim may suffer from night terrors which may cause them to lose sleep and be on edge. Also flashbacks are a major problem you get from PTSD. Flashbacks may cause outbursts of anger or cowering in fear. Deep depression could fall upon the victim causing them to isolate themselves or feel hopeless about the future. PTSD tears the victim down from the brain and the nervous system like when they imagine things that aren’t there or getting scared easy or being really jumpy. All these things can destroy the victim but it also can affect those around them.
PTSD is a stressful thing to deal with even for the victim’s family and friends. Being a family member or friend of a victim can toll on the most caring of people. Research has shown that PTSD victims have more marital problems and family violence. It could be that people with PTSD...
