The impact of the television on the people of this country has greatly increased throughout the years. However, the influences portrayed from the televisions are not always for the better. The media tries its best to send information to the people, but on the topic of presidential elections, there is always controversy. It seems to appear that the television has had “unsuspected” help to make the presidential elections focused more on which candidate is more impressive on screen, then who is presenting the finest ideas.
The president’s image is important in a campaign, but it should not be the main factor to which they deserve to be sworn into office. Television has made it so the Presidents who have the most influential appearance during a broadcasted debate, receive the most support….”Our national politics has become a competition for images or between images, rather than between ideals,” [one commentator] concluded. “An effective President must be every year more concerned with projecting images of himself. (Source C)” Isn’t the reason for becoming President to help the nation be the best as it can be? A President being sworn into office based entirely on their appearance is not only wrong but frightening. White “believed the Kennedy’s “victory” in the debates was largely a triumph of image over content. (Source C)” White had the right idea that television broadcasted debates were, and still are, unhelpful to the American peoples’ ability to successfully choose the best candidate. Television really messes up our views and opinions on who really should be the best option as they cloud our thoughts with unnecessary information.
