Let that chance encounter with the young, homeless girl on the London Street. Rose sat alone with fear and fallen hope filling the space in her deep blue eyes. Tattered and battered, she brought her knees up to her chest and rocked back and forth in the small hostile corner that she is used to calling “home”. Every day she watches the ‘normal’s’ walk by, avoiding her pale, innocent stares .her hair caught in knotted strands which used to be a beautiful golden yellow but is now a rough brown. Smudges of dirt collided with her pale skin almost giving herself a layer of warmth like a sheep with its coat of wool ready for winter. Rose never used to be alone and without a home. She used to be a good little girl with a family and growing talents but ever since that prize, she had gained nothing. Her future seems dead, gone, never coming back. She has to hope, watch her hopes get crushed and then start all over again the next day.
Days come and go. Woken early by the roars of passing by cars and falling asleep to an empty sky where the stars should be: dancing around in the moonlight. Most days are fine when she gets a few generous tips from passsers by but other days are rough on her; days when a not even a penny is given. The feeling when she can taste the food passers by consumed as she is without for days, weeks, even months at a time. The weather, most days, is great. Rose can stretch her legs and go for a walk; but going for a walk comes with a price of being star of the freak show for everyone she passes. Even sometimes she goes back home and finds somebody else is sitting where she used to: having nowhere to stay with no choice to find somewhere else to call home.
Rose is young. She has her whole life ahead of her. Who knows what could happen to her in an hour, a day, a week. Rose could be given a helping hand, a home, a second chance to start over again and regain her life to what it once was, or she could have a loss of hope again and have to sleep in her...
