Bronfenbrenners ecological framework, are separated into six stages, which are the individual, microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem and the chronosystem.
Firstly, in the individual system and microsystem there is interaction between the individual person and the environment in the immediate setting. For example, when a mother interacts with other family members (children) at home (Berger, 1998, p.16).
In the third stage, which is the mesosystem, is the interrelationship among the various settings in which the individual person is developing. For instance the mesosystem would include the mothers relationships among family, work and with friends (Berger, 1998, P.16). Following onto the next stage is the exosystem which is the major social structures that impinges on the individual. This would include in my case, places like Bethlehem Campus, my neighbourhood, the mass media, and agencies of the government,( Winz) transportation facilities, and informal social networks(church) (Berger, 1998, p.16). The second to last stage in Bronfenbrenner ecological system is the macrosystem, which is the overarching institutional patterns of the culture or subculture, such as the economic, social, educational, legal and political systems, of all of the other systems that have previously been mention, are concrete manifestations(Berger 1998, p.16).
The macrosystem is the source and carrier of the ideologies that affect everyones development. For instance, how much value my European culture places on my children will influence how each one of my children are treated in every other setting.(Berger, 1998, p.16)The chronosystem is what encompasses change or consistency over time not only in the characteristics of the person but also of the environment in which that person lives (e.g., my marriage, separation, teenage children socioeconomic status, employment, place of residence, or the degree of hecticness and ability in every day life)....
