Topic

The presentation topic was based on the views of Gordon Graham and Douglas Birsch in terms of virtual reality. Graham suggested that no matter how much technology advances the experience a person has in virtual reality will always lack in one way or another in comparison with an experience in reality. On the other hand, Birsch claims that despite VR’s shortcomings, it is better for someone to have a virtual experience than not have one at all. Birsch’s idea is more agreeable due to the huge influence technology has on people’s lives so virtual experiences are not as far-fetched as they were decades ago. Virtual experiences, apart from being used for entertainment, can also be used to make sound decisions in real life and in businesses, these decisions can be a lot more accurate than how they were made in the past when there was no such thing as virtual experiences.

1.1. Background of Virtual Reality

The idea of Virtual Reality began well before the advent of the computer, but in dealing only with the VR in the sense in which we know it, all its history has occurred over the past 40 years (Rapee,1995) . Virtual realities, or virtual environment systems, are, in general, systems where a user is interactively interfaced to a computer and engaged in a 3D visual task. The computer provides a virtual domain for supporting 3D models of objects or complete environments and, given suitable transducers, the user can interact with the system in real time.
