But before I answer the question about voting for Abraham Lincoln today it is necessary to answer other ones: What was the situation during Lincoln´s time like? What were the qualities of Abraham Lincoln? And what qualities would he have at the present time?
During Lincoln´s time, people were faced with a crucial ideological conflict within a nation half slave and half free. At the time of the Cold war, people were faced with another crucial ideological conflict within a world half communist and half free. Nowadays it seems there is not any huge ideological conflict any more. Instead of ideology, the problem resides in increasing disinterest in politics and general apathy. This had a huge impact on the recent elections in October, where the voter turnout was very low.
It follows that the social and political situation during Lincoln´s life was very dissimilar to these days. The life in the 19th century was much more difficult then today. There were illnesses; the quality of health care was incomparable with current situation.
